RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Paying monthly electric bills can be a challenge for families on a fixed income, so Dominion Virginia Power’s EnergyShare program is expanding to help.

It will now weatherize the homes of qualifying residents, like Marjorie Wilson who has lived at her Randolph home since 1954.

“I think it’s nice,” says the 84-year-old about all the improvements designed to make her home more energy-efficient.

“There’s so much going on!” Wilson’s daughter, Diane Campbell, adds.  “They’re up in the attic, outside, insulating the outside.”

Volunteers from project:HOMES are part of the outreach at Wilson’s residence.

“It’s gonna make a big difference, it’s gonna make a big difference,” Campbell observes.  “We feel it’s a blessing to have this program.”

Dominion will spend $57 million through 2019 to help more people get help with their energy bills.

This initiative came out of legislation passed by the Virginia General Assembly and an executive directive by Gov. Terry McAuliffe in February.

Virginia residents can call 211 for EnergyShare assistance.  For more information about weatherization, customers may also call 1-888-366-8280.
